Program Outline:

Participants will be guided through a number of team-building activities, will learn how to motivate and encourage young children, will learn a number of outdoor-based activities/games they themselves will feel comfortable leading in a camp, basic first-aid and camp/tent set-up and take-down intricacies and how best to support younger students who are doing this, among other things.  Reflection will play a key part in this process as students are asked to set goals for themselves and reflect on their experiences both in this program and in previous volunteer leadership opportunities.

A bonus of this year's program is the canoe experience and certification (which doesn't expire).  Roger Warnatsch of Greenwave Canoeing has kindly agreed to join us from Kimberley to facilitate the three-day camp at Momich Lake.  Our own local celebrity, Phil McIntyre-Paul, will be facilitating the one-day flat water canoe course on Gardom Lake June 3.

Application Requirements:

No previous canoe experience necessary. Participants are expected to volunteer in one of our summer camps.

Students will be asked to fill out an application form with personal references included, to be mailed or handed in to Geoff Styles at Bastion School no later than April 18, 2017.

We look forward to sharing what promises to be a powerful program with nine students from our area this Spring!
